India has high power distance and high levels of hierarchy inside its corporations. Knowing that these are the opposite of the US is critical in beginning the IndiaThink process (AIM) of ASSESSing the cultures at play. The next step is IDENTIFYING the differences between the cultures. Here opposing values for Power Distance and Hierarchy are critical to understanding how to plan a conference call. Finally MEDIATION takes place when US managers take the following into account:

+Lack of decision making ability: the team you are working with may not have the authority to make a decision

+Power Distance: India teams may be waiting for the Manager to answer all questions.

+Hierarchy: India Managers may not have the authority to make a decision, make sure you understand the path a final decision.

+Floor Control: India has a different perception of floor control than America. Planning your video/audio conference for this is critical. You may end up without a sound on the India side without floor control mechanisms.
