  • One of my teacher one said someone blocked her kicks with her elbow so she kept kicking his elbow intill his elbow hurt

  • distraction is the key : true

  • Agreed.

  • @flykickk

You can also expose you own trunk by lifting your hand to create a distraction.

  • Thanks a lot for the awnser master kim :)

  • thank you! i had the same question :)

  • Master Kim, Do you have any favourite martial arts films. At our club were quite fond of "Best of the best." I realise this is more a personnel question, than a training one, but I'm interested nonetheless. However, I will understand completely if you decide not to reply.

  • This is what I mean by turning your leg to go over the elbow:

youtube.com/watch?v=SDABvEVQKnM of course you have to adapt this to Taekwondo sparring style depending on the distance, speed and timing. The further you'll have to reach to easier you'll catch an elbow / be countered.

  • Kick on the open side (stomac) instead of the closed side (back + elbow). Setup kicks, 1st to the stomac, 2nd to the closed side. You can also very well kick directly the side with the elbow with the right technique like muay thaï. Begin your bandal chagi/round house as you normally would then pivot to bring your instep around the elbow thus avoid injury and hitting the back of your partner.

  • Careful with heavy bags, if you have never kicked one or done conditioning work before. Do not kick the bag full blast with unprotected feet or you will feel like barely able to walk for days!

Start either with a light bag and work up to heavy bag for barefoot conditioning or use foot protection on heavy bag work for a while.
