Numbers 31

The Lord decides to send an army of Israel against the people of Midian who sent their daughters whoring after Israel "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people. And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites" The leaders mess up, again.

@0nyxBlackman Obviously then, according to your thinking, the Midianites were good people and the fact that they were burning their children alive to their idols and were sending their daughters and wives to seduce the Hebrew men to murder their children too are not important and the Midianites should be left alone to worship by murdering their children and you probably wouldn't mind if your neighbors burned your children in their BBQ as a sacrifice to their god. How kind of you!

@TheGospelReader The adult Midianites may have done horrible things, but the children? They slaughtered ALL the male children. They kept girls who were virgins for themselves; not just the ones that, "haven't participated in this religon, ONLY the young virgins. Sense at that time the average age for marriage was 12-14 years old, and assuming around the same number of boys and girls of same age, around 32,000 boys under the age of 14 were murdered in cold blood, from adolescents to infants.

@GrendelNin The Midianites had NO barriers to having sex with any girl - even babies. TODAY 10 million girls as young as 5 are married to mature men and men having sex with girls age 8-9 is considered normal in certain religions & cultures. What would you do with boys who saw that kind of perversion from early childhood? Look up "Child Bride" on Google and read National Geographic June 2011 story on child brides. Read about the suicides and beatings. The Midianites were 1000 times worse.

@TheGospelReader (2of2)In all the cultures of that age, when the life expectances were around 30 years, wasn’t uncommon for men to take VERY young girls as wives. This is exactly what is taking place with these girls in Numbers 31. I find it abhorrent to even think that practice would take place today.

You say that in some cultures this is happening today. Should we round up the male youths of those cultures and murder them as well?

@TheGospelReader (1 of 2) I wasn’t trying to argue that the Midianites were good people, quite the opposite, they did horrible things. I have a problem with the thought of killing infants and children who had nothing to do with that. Why murder the just the boys, when the girls would have seen the same exact things?
