50 years since 350 villages were forcefully displaced to build Hirakud Dam, the displaced people are yet to enjoy the fruits of development. On the other hand the state government has now announced to sell the water in the reservoir to metal companies making a beeline for the state's mineral wealth.

This is a campaign video for the Western Orissa Farmers Association which has resolved not to allow the Hirakud water to be diverted for industrial use or be polluted by industry and is organising a massive civil disobedience movement on 6 Nov '07. They aim to take over the dam for a day as a symbol of reassertion of their rights over their resources.

  • This government is a chhuachor. Just like a chhuachor eludes a child by offering candy, and then takes out the kidney, similarly these petty politicians are offering sops and fooling us, then taking away whatever vital things we have, such as, Niyamgiri, Gandhamardan, Hirakud, etc...

E sale ku pathar thi bandhi kari dam re fikidebar katha.
