3 Tips for how to avoid falling asleep during meditation:
Meditation can be very relaxing... sometimes too relaxing and even with the best intentions we sit down to meditate and find ourselves taking a little nap instead.
Here are great tips to get all the benefits of mediation and relaxation without falling asleep.
Don't get too comfortable. I know it is tempting to get cozy in your favorite chair or even lie down... but the best way to avoid falling asleep is to find a place to sit upright. You may need to create some kind of gentle discomfort like resting your arm up on a chair rather than in your lap.
Actively participate mentally in the meditation. So, if you are listening to a guided meditation and you are asked to see the number 3 three times.. imagine a letter 3 , 3 times. Or, if you are doing a meditation on your own remain active and focused on what the meditation is meant to do... like breathing or relaxing specific parts of the body.
Have Fun! Enjoy meditation. It is okay if you don't get it right the first time. Like all habits and new things, meditation takes practice. If you were meant to do it perfectly the first time...it wouldn't be called a "meditation practice".
