I saw Diana perform this song in The White Church, Comrie prior to her Celtic Connections appearance in 2008. One of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs ever.
Excellent song written and sung by Diana Jones. She was asked to write a song about a Scotsman Henry Russell who emigrated to West Virginia but sadly died in a mining disaster in 1927. She was asked to write the song to raise funds for a permanent memorial site. She struggled for inspiration until hearing Henry's story and reading his final,heart-rending messages to his beloved wife Mary and his children. He lay dying but managed to write her a message using coal and a scrap of paper. RIP Henry.
Heard this song on BBC Radio 2 over 2 months ago whilst i was driving going to work. Had to pull over and sit back in the car totally mesmerised by this womans voice. There have been many great female vocalists over the years;Diana Jones is certainly right up there with the very best, but not all that many people know who she is which is a great shame.
beatiful lyrics, I think Joan Baez has a better performance though

What a sad, but beautiful love song. Goes straight to the heart, greetings from an Irish musician.
