Recorded June 18, 2007.

Misty Fjords National Monument covers 2,294,343 acres of Tongass National Forest in the Panhandle of southeast Alaska. The area is called "The Yosemite of the North" for its similar geology. Light-colored granite, about 50 to 70 million years old has been sculpted by glaciers that gouged deep U-shaped troughs throughout the monument.

The monument certainly lived up to its name on the day of my visit, as it was definitely misty. During the video of my cruise of the area we also see some wildlife in the form of a wolf and a killer whale.

  • I was there 2 weeks ago. Nice clear day, but not nearly as much activity from the wildlife. The rocks were alive with harbor seals though. Surprises me this was February. I would have expected to see a lot more snow. Perhaps the Ketchican sea level area doesn't get much?

  • @ParagonB Sorry, that was a typo, it was recorded in June.

  • We did a float plane tour to Misty Fjord. We were visited by several harbor seals while we were in the Fjord. Had a wonderful time. Amazing scenery.

  • ahh:) well loved it out there. we didn't get to see a wolf though, and there was still a lot of snow on the upper peaks last week.
