Seems this is the path most take.

Suspect all depends on your goals-amount of time you can devote-money supply n your age-each factor will strongly affect your path n out come I believe

However

It can be both lots of fun n vary rewarding, just be patient n stick with it.

Also, owing your own A/C can and hiring your own CFI is also a path to consider n could end up being the cheapest path in the end

4 me I would use a month or so in the winters to get a new rating, got my com heli in Hawaii.

Since a helicopter can do so much more than an airplane, there are more aspects of flight you need to control in order to be able to do all these things...

I have often felt that a helicopter is a magic carpet........

If U call needing to simultaneously operate your

Left wrist to controle the engine RPM

Left elbow to controle the combined pitch of the main rotor

Right hand control direction

Right index finger to controle the radio transmitter

Right foot to swing the nose right n counter any throttle inputs

Left foot to swing the nose left n counter any throttle inputs

Your eyes constantly scanning the instruments n watching out for traffic

Your mouth to talk on the radio

Yes-vary simple to fly any helicopter
