Points of interest to other guitar guys:
1. This is the free Rogue RA-100D guitar I used in "Queenie's Waltz", but but but I slapped on a compensated saddle and wow, pretty good intonations now. I was not sure it would work, but the Washburn Rover I picked up a few months ago had an extra saddle so I sanded the shit out of it to make it fit and it seems to work. Action a touch high but I'll finish work next string change. I'm just laughing now that it has pretty much worked, and enjoying the "new" guitar. What a beater this thing turned out to be. Coffee table, weapon, floatation device and NOW... pretty good intonations and free. Can't ask for more can ya? but I will, too bad the top is laminated and not solid and the fretboard not a bit wider. :-)

2. My older son walks in on me at 1:40 into the video - hence the face.

3. I'm using my better camera - Kodak C643 at a lower resolution and hope the video is in sync unlike Si... Video... lets see what happens

4. my wife had the memory card out and I didn't know it, so the end of the video is clipped off - sorry I don't feel like doing a second take and the bird outside my window (listen close) would not help me again at the end; I'm pretty sure. And chapter 9 of the Tao Te Ching states: Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner. I would rather just be a friend and hope you just enjoy what I just did.

oh... 5. that Chet Atkins style lick at 2:48ish is pretty rough for me on a 1 and 11/16 neck - hard to dig in with the picking hand with no nails or picks(I'm a flesh guy). I continue to challenge myself and not use my Seagull at 1.8 width. It's a personal thing now. :-)

6. Book touched before I sit down is on Benjamin Franklin. I was thinking too much about the video recording as a one. Thinking about his life and the song cleared my mind a bit for the playing.

Enjoy your day!

  • Sounds good. I just bought one of these as a combo deal, buy the guitar and they throw a Mandolin in free for $79.99. I was reading the feedback on this guitar at Musicians Friend, and a few people say what you say, you need to take the saddle out and file it a bit to get a good sound. I'm pretty much just learning guitar, until now, all I have had is Cigar Box Guitars, so kind of stoked to get a real guitar and if it sounds like that I will be pleased. LOL

  • @rh8807 you will not be disappointed at that price point for sure. you may find the mandolin "unplayable". the nut was so high on mine it changed the pitch of the note a few cents pressing down to fret a note. I had to sand nut down before even looking at bridge / saddle area. If you want guitar sound good you need to put a compensated saddle in not just sand it down. Sanding down the original saddle will only make action better but intonation will still suffer above 5th fret

  • dude that sounds pretty damn nice for an 80dollar guitar nice playin too by the way

    Robert Louis Jr.

  • I'm pleased that that is coming across and appreciate you seeing that. When I was younger and a bit more foolish, I mistakenly believed it was the tool and not the man. If I can direct a learning player (especially a younger one) to focus inward more and not be blinded by the "bling" I'm pleased by that. But that concept would be beneficial to all players. I can never be completely happy with my guitar playing because I don't do it for a living, but I'm at a point where I'm very satisfied.

  • how much was the saddle?

  • Are you saying the song is in the key of C# as in C# Ionian? The tuning is DADGAD, but yes I could be flat as I don't usually worried much about pitch as I play alone all the time. The only song I have to watch out for is Queenie's Watlz as the 6th is tuned down to C. I leave from "Standard E tuning" from proper pitch. I wish I understood what you were saying better. It sounds to me your are listening to my playing and trying to drop your 6th to C# and the guitar will not go (fret buzz?)

  • Thanks for your reply. Regardless of the tuning, the song is being played in the key of C# (or Db), with the lowest string tuned to C# (Db). So, maybe it is tuned to DADGAD with all strings lowered 1 fret or one half-tone. Anyway, it is a good job of playing. I enjoyed it.

  • The song is in DADGAD, so I'm a bit confused by your C# comment. I know a lot of them, but I'm not into "tunings". I can only read in standard tuning, so once I go "open" I rely on tab for the most part. I don't do "ear" as it takes to long. At that point I read the notation just to make sure the tab is right. It's all about getting the song done, so if you can get it done in another tuning go for it. A Capo helps when the ear get tried of a song.

  • Well, I can't seem to get that low C# on my guitar. It only goes down to E. So, I can't learn this song.

  • nice playing there m8..but.....loose the hat..8-}
