The Dance of the Hours segment from Disney's 1940 film Fantasia. In this segment, four groups of dancers perform a ballet each representing a different time of day. (I just imagine someone in the designing process for this segment coming up with the idea "What four animals would look ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS doing ballet?")

In the first act, we see a troupe of ostriches dancing to the welcoming rays of morning in the Great Hall of a Venetian palace after which, they decide to have breakfast. There is some slight disputation at that point.

As the ostriches scatter, a hippo appears eating the grapes the ostriches had been fighting over. Other hippos, clad in ballet slippers and tutus, arrive presenting their principle dancer with her own tutu. They then perform their own dance representing the heat of afternoon after which the lead dancer hunkers down for a long nap.

As a special contest - or whatever you'd call it - I will give one free comment to anyone who can correctly name all of the principle dancers in this segment. (This event is now closed.)

  • What is the name of this music? The melody reminds me of another song.

  • Dude, look at the title, it's called the Dance of the Hours!

Although, somebody once made a song set to this melody called "Camp Grenadda" (or however it's spelled)

That might be what you're thinking of.

  • Ahem; Let's keep the comments to G rating, shall we?
