Test details:

The Ford Freestyle was introduced in the 2005 model year. The vehicle will be re-engineered with a new engine for the 2008 model year and renamed the Ford Taurus X.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck, chest, and legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low.

  • I love the styling of the Freestyle. I call it a "weekend trips", "go anywhere" styling. All 7 people sit comfortably in the spacious seat spaces. NICE!

  • the all black one is nice...great car for what's in it

  • That dummy is still going to have a head ache!

Just looking at buying a 07 FWD. I was at myfordfreestyle, lots of common complaints but the resolutions seem simple enough. This seems to be a very finicky vehicle that demands to be in top running condition ALL the time. Not like the pre-computer cable controlled systems of early 90's and older which you could skip a maintenance cycle with no serious consequences.

With the lunges typical of the FS, good thing its built well.

  • With light load, my AWD was getting MAX. 31 mpg on flat highway alone mileage. FWD will get 2 mpg more by being lighter. Stop and go traffic gas mileage are in the low side. Underpower is a feeling made by the characteristic of the Continuous variable transmission. If you floor the gas pedal, the Freestyle shooting fast like a rocket. I tried it before. I too love the smooth engine and ride. Have you join THE myfordfreestyle owners forum? You can ask them questions, if you ever get a problem.

  • agreed...It is a bit underpowered, and fuel economy isn't the best, but its spacious and has a smooth engine and ride. I have the awd model...should have gotten the FWD!

  • hahah no...its more of a fact =P

  • Keep your opinions to yourself, wierdo :D
