EEB Graduate student Christopher Johnson talks about his research, "the causes and consequences of harmful algal blooms on lesser flamingos in the Great Rift Valley, in Kenya. Flamingo mass die-offs have been increasing recently, which has been attributed to harmful algal blooms in polluted lakes. I study the ecological conditions that promote harmful algal blooms in these lakes, with the goal of developing management plans to reduce the risk of lesser flamingo mass die-offs due to harmful algal blooms."
