Many have said that few cities of comparable size match Lakelands appreciation of cultural events ranging from year-round art exhibitions, concerts, plays, dance, and other culturally significant activities. Lakeland's love affair with the arts may be on display at the Polk Museum, but it resonates thru the entire city.
Florida Southern College features the largest collection Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. The Polk Museum of Art has displayed pieces by Picasso. A distinctive sculpture by Albert Paley stands defiantly along the shore of the Lake Mirror Promenade. Historic Munn Park is home to many art fairs, & the adjacent Arts on the Park Gallery is renowned for fine works of art. The Polk Theatre & the Lake Mirror Promenade, both located within Downtown Lakeland, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
