Remember not to hook up the signal to a DCC system. I have wired mine to a DC power pack with some voltage going to the signal controller. The controller works by using optical sensors to detect the shadows of trains passing overhead. Based on which way the direction switch of the DC power pack is oriented will decide which sensors will be used. There are two sensors for each direction of travel for a total of 4 sensors hooking up to the signal controller.

yea I got on of those controlders and I have DCC and I did have a dc power pack and used it for the directing detection. then I found a few controlers that cost the same for the photo ones and then 10 bucks more for Ir ones so I can operate in the dark also. I didnt care for having to have to switch a power pack from each directiong to switch the system and I had two tracks and wanted to dected trains from both and a crosover also. I will have a video up if you like to see when its working.

That sounds a lot better than my setup. I'll keep an eye out for that video.
