Herta Llusho, a DREAM Act student from Michigan, tells Senate staffers the story of her years-long struggle with immigration enforcement. Recorded during a briefing in the US Capitol on October 23rd, 2009. The DREAM Act is a piece of legislation that would create a path to legal status for young people who grew up in the U.S. and want to go to college or serve in the U.S. military.

Contrary to the perceptions that illegal aliens don't pay payroll taxes, CIS concludes that more than 1/2 of illegals work "on the books." On avg, illegal households pay more than $4,200 / yr in all forms of fed taxes. Unfortunately, they impose costs of $6,950 / household.

100% of illegals in the US are criminals via their very existence here illegally. Add welfare fraud, identity theft, unlicensed driving, uninsured driving, drunk driving, murder, rape, working illegally, tax evasion, stolen education, undeserved financial aid for higher education, the Dream Act ... and the list goes on. @cuauhtemoc18 - You are correct in that our perspective on ILLEGAL ALIENS that choose to use a system set up for LEGAL residents of the USA to have benefits intended for LEGAL CITIZENS differs. I choose to abide with the LEGAL precedent which allows access to these benefits for those that are actually citizens of the USA and you choose to allow those that have come here to steal and lie their way into these benefits. An "all the people all the time" argument is flawed because neither all 'legally' registered nor all non-registered peoples do either. Many pay taxes, you do every time you go and shop and even if they have a fake SSN they aren't likely dumb enough to file taxes to collect on them. Which means they are likely doing more to support our failed social security system than most. Although I'm sure that they secretly wish to come here to foil our tax system and go to college to pay into it... wait?

@UltraDuperSuper My loyalty is to the people, tall or short, white, black, brown or somewhere in between, to the immigrants who live in this country regardless of their status or how many generations back their family immigrated here. What happened in the 80's wasn't perfect but was a result of the flawed bracero program. I don't pretend to have all the answers only know that I side with people and the DREAM ACT does that.
