it sings because of high levels of silica in the sand bonding elements together. when a strong wind of leg in this case shakes or moves it, it starts makin a weird noise. its like a person bending a saw. it screams and moans and what not. normal sand is about 20% silica, and singing sand is much higher at 80-90% silica
And here I was thinking it was a completely made-up ass-pull of a gameplay mechanic for Metal Gear 2. The more you know!
