  • No wonder the project failed :at 1:50 you can see that the buildings are too small. So small, that they fit on a table! No wonder the crowding led to problems.

  • My father lived in Pruitt-Igoe with his mother and his 5 brothers and sister...he always tells us stories about what it was like living there, but to actually see the living conditions makes me have a much deeper appreciation for the great man my father grew up to be...thank you so much for sharing...

  • @UndergroundJazzA If they are paying money to live in a Soviet Cube, it's because there aren't better options. It will take awhile for them to be torn down and built differently with the idea of attracting buyers, as opposed to the State telling you to live there.

  • @UndergroundJazzA Uplifting and nice? They look like a prison. Just as all the other square boxes found anywhere else do. Noone in their right mind would pay money to live in a dump like that, just as they won't in Russia. I realize, coming from Russia, that having comforting, well designed places to live might not be your forte. Which contributes to depression and death by vodka. Enjoy your free housing.

  • @UndergroundJazzA Yes, you are correct, but Section 8, Welfare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, FHA housing, all teach you to depend on the state, distort the markets, and obviously giving away free housing didn't help these people one bit. Just because this country wasn't built on those principles doesn't mean we don't have them today, they just exist within the capitalist framework you mentioned.

  • @blizzy63 Why is total failure in ideology and design? As i can see Pruitt Igoe before it turned to abondoned hood looks very upliftin' and nice.

  • @phyuckyeu "Free anything is a self fulfilling prophecy. Socialist fail.".No,is not, socialism iz not fail.U.S.A. was not build on socialistic priciples,U.S.A was build on greed, unjustice, violence, lie, blood, hypocrisy, destruction of one people by another, etc.I don't judge,it's just a fakt.

  • By the way,in my hometown we have a lot of buildings which was build in 60's-70's,five-storey,nine-storey buildings similar to those which in this video and majority of them in order.Another thing that a lot of residents in there are owners of these flats in which they live.I think americans should be glad that they have public housing, food stamps, welfare, this is helpful.Another thing is how people use it.

  • @daleprechaungold "Modernist crime against beauty......",man,are you alright? These buildings are beautiful, you just don't see this. This is GREAT that they are still around.MUCH LOVE TO THE "SOVIET CUBES".

  • I don't understand why in U.S. this amazing architecture have to be tagged as something unsuccessful. Why people don't look after these buildings, there's should be some services and i'm sure there is,which should maintain these buildings order. But i think U.S. government have another plan for these type of places and for people who live there.R.I.P Pruitt Igoe.PEACE

  • It's so sad to see that they been demolished.Amazingly beautiful architecture and environment(when they was finished),it was for people to live comfortable, good life, the same as it was in U.S.S.R but why they turn to so abandoned place? It's because goverment don't care for poor? But i think it's because people don't appriciate what they have also, how long these projects was existed?Look at those flats, enough space, good environment plus it was public housing which mean low prices for rent.

  • @decimated550 What is this?? A center for ants?? It needs to be at least....three times bigger!
