Judy Garland Barbra Streisand Duet - Get Happy / Happy Days Are Here Again

Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand sing "Get Happy" and "Happy Days Are Here Again" in a counterpoint duet. This performance is from episode 9 of the Judy Garland Show, broadcast on October 6, 1963. It is available in a number of DVD "Judy Garland Show" collections which seem to go in and out of print. U.S. viewers can probably buy or rent one of these DVDs online; worldwide viewers are probably out of luck.

Barbra was 21 years old at the time and received an Emmy nomination for her guest appearance.

On October 12, 2010, the hit television series GLEE featured this duet, with Barbra's role performed by Lea Michele and Judy's role performed by Chris Colfer. Lea was 24 at the time while Chris was 20 years old. Both Lea and Chris are very talented young singers and gave an amazing performance of this song. Kudos to GLEE for including this song on the show.

I still wish GLEE didn't feel the need to disguise the warmth of their talented cast members' voices with AutoTune. They hire wonderful singers, then electronically distort their vocal skills. However, GLEE is introducing a new generation of viewers to wonderful songs like this, so I can't really complain.

This is a real performance! I hate Glee. Don't get me wrong, I think all the singers on Glee have good voices, but I never feel any emotion in their singing. Judy Garland had one of those voices where you felt the emotions she was singing right along with her.

Also it's nice to point out that this medley was Judy's idea. Her mind was so sharp. She also wrote "What is a boy" for "Dirty Hands Dirty face". The woman's IQ was so high. It is said that she only had to read the script of "SIB" once and had it in her beezer. We shall never see her likes again. Ty for the post!

Glee may not use auto tune in the way you are thinking by giving it a robotic tone, but they do use computers to enhance their voices. Not to say that they can't sing to begin with, but when you listen to them you can hear that it's completely enhanced.

@webgurls1 They sound the same live because in "live" shows they're actually lip-synching to auto-tuned, pre-recorded versions of their songs. Popular singers have been doing this for a long time, but autotune has been added in more recent years. Like I said, this doesn't mean they're bad singers. It just means that people don't sound like people and even those with no talent can be "fixed" and sold to the masses. I know it sucks and it's fine if you don't believe me, but that's the truth.

@HelixWell No they dont! Have you heard them LIVE? I think not because if you had you would know thaat their voices sound the exact same as on the show! They dont use autotune!

@webgurls1 I'm sorry to correct you, but they DO use autotune. That doesn't mean they have bad voices. It's just become the trend in popular music. Maybe it's to insure that the pitch is exact or maybe it's because it makes the sound more constant and uniform. Unfortunately, this also creates a sound that lacks emotion and texture and isn't completely 'human'. I guess it's fine if that's what you like, but don't be fooled into thinking that what you're hearing has not been tampered with.
