The footage for Grope was shot in a cornfield with a stream and a little bridge. A tiny waterproof camera was attached to the top of 3 twelve foot pieces of electrical conduit pipe. The objective was for the camera to create the impression flying. The camera was taken through the corn stalks as if a bird was flying through the corn. The camera was then walked through trees to represent the bird flying through the woods.

The shot from the tree tips to under the bridge, then under the water was from 36 feet in the air with a 34 foot descent. It was a challenge to hold the camera and conduit steady but it created some interesting distortions and effects. This shot tried to show the bird going in the water.

The hard part of this project was the conduit catching on the branches. The achievement in this footage was creating the illusion of flight for a reasonable cost.

The piece was edited to the bass and the beat, with special attention to the camera going up and down with music.

This track was written in the fall of '09, with the ancient analog Korg MS 20 synth solo being the last thing added. I played the Korg with no midi, a match book jammed into the keys to hold the note and both hands on the knobs. The Bass is also made with the MS 20. Like most DubStep the Bass is the melody and will be lost when heard on TV or computer speakers. This becomes a challenge as so many folks are surfing the web when they watch music videos but the Bass is always front and center in all of my tracks. I refuse to change that just because so many people will watch this without hearing the Bass. I hope that one day they will watch it on a phat system and their sox will be blown off. The vocal sample is Carolyn Honeychild Coleman who i love working with.
