Here's a few build specs on a beautiful Extra 330L 50cc RC Airplane kit with an 88.5" wingspan and 20x6 Classis Series Master Airscrew . The pre-fabricated laser cut built-up balsa/plywood frame covered with a Yellow/Red/Black drum tight Econocote came with enough hardware to attach long 5" servo arms, large add-on optioned 7" landing gear wheels replacing the stock 3.5" foam wheels, and other top-flite model aircraft parts that will make it fun to fly out at the RC Club. The kit arrived with an empty weight of about 15 pounds. After adding 7 servos & linkages, one for the throttle, 2 for the ailerons, 2 combined in line for the rudder, 2 for the elevator, and the engine weighing in at about 9 pounds with the additional plywood mount built-up, the plane finished at a total 25 pounds tare weight. The greater weight on a smaller engine will put this model aircraft in a sport class. With a larger engine and 26" prop, it could be a 3D aerobatic model.

  • The Extra 330L 50cc is the next step up from one of the 1.20 to 1.80 nitro engine kits, although some of the 1.80 nitro fuel 4 stroke engines may be comparable. Expect to spend two to three times the cost of the kit for necessary parts not included ie. DA50 engine, (7) 120oz/in metal gear servos, pushrods, & radio.

  • Seven of the all metal geared hexTronic HX12K from Hobby King are installed using the M3 swivel ball links that came with the kit and threaded heavy gauge aluminum wire for the pushrods as follows: 2 tied together under the canopy for the rudder, 1 for each side aileron, 1 for each side elevator (although I tied the two sides together using threaded expansion couplers), & 1 for the throttle. The pushrods were cut to lengths, and threaded using a modeller's M3 die tool.

  • Damn!!! My lawnmower has aircraft wheels!

  • Is this another hunk of crap by nitroplanes or is it worth the money to buy for 3D?

  • Hey looks great. Mine should be here in a few day. Im rigging it with a 56cc DLA. What servos did you use?
