It's not like they'd skip the Derby and Preakness with a superior horse.

Barbaro was a nice horse, and it can't be denied.. but too many people overrate him sadly. He won 6 races, thats all 6. Thats just not enough races to declare him amongst the greatest. It's not like he went into Louisville the same way Spectacular Bid did, with 12 race winning streak intact. Had he done that and went down at Pimlico its a different ball game. 6 wins and only two of them grade 1 though gives no bearing on how good his future would have been.

you really think that empire maker would've beaten funny cide in the preakness? it wasn't like he won by a diminishing length huffing and puffing. nobody was going to beat him that day.
