A friend of mine writes and sings music, and I was touched by one of her songs, so I decided to sign it. I hope that you enjoy, critiques are more than welcome, and I apologize for the sound... The song itself is really soft, so you will need to turn up the volume.

You can find this and other music at myspace.com/aliciamiles. These are the lyrics:

It was cold in late December
when Thomas kissed his home good-bye.
A battle raged o'er the water
and tears filled his mother's eyes.
As he turned away
he heard his mother pray...

"Hold your head up, young Thomas
though a battle you must face.
Trouble comes and trouble goes
but you'll return to me someday."

Thomas was a boy of twenty
his youthful eyes instilled with fear
because in his hands he held a rifle.
Distant gunfire he could hear.
As he turned away
he heard a brother say...

"Hold your head up, young soldier
because the battle rages on.
You are needed this fine hour.
There's a war yet to be won."

Thomas was to fight at sunrise.
He closed his eyes and fought to rest.
In his hands he held his Bible
and hugged it close to his chest.
As he turned away
he heard his mother say...

"Hold your head up, young Thomas
though a battle you must face.
Trouble comes and trouble goes
but you'll return to me someday."

The enemy was all around them
and there was nowhere left to go.
Thomas cried out in anguish
as he fell to the snow.
And as he fades away
he silently prays...

"Father, please tell my mother
that I did my very best.
But now my battle here is over
and I'm going home to rest."

  • That's a great 'terp. Are you hearing/hh/deaf? Where from?

The only sign that threw me was 'trouble'; you sign it almost like I'd sign 'hard'. 'Problem' here (CA Bay Area) has the same motion as 'argument' but with the double-x handshape you used.

    Make more. :)

  • I am hearing student of a local (Southern Al) ASL program (I am only in 103). I thought trouble looked funny... lol

  • Very pretty. Could you post a transcript or mp3?

  • I have posted all of that in the description. Sorry I didn't do it before...
