This is a sound level reading from the end of Chappus Street in Windsor. The reading was taken on Saturday, December 3, at 9:28 a.m. It was from inside a car with front windows down, heat off, and engine off. The view shifts from out through the front window to out the driver side door.

This was recorded on an iPhone 4 at 1.62 km (straight line) from the center of Zug Island at 9:28 a.m. on December 3, 2011. The meter is a Radio Shack 33-02055 and measure down to 32 Hz on C weighting. The 02055 is considered very accurate for a low cost meter.

On a side note, immediately after we parked to take this video we were confronted by a security person in a van; he asked what the "purpose of our being here" was. I told him it was none of his business. He said, "well, as long as you don't go into the bush". We did not as the noise was bad enough from inside the car. The security van went up the road, stopped, and was joined by a second security vehicle. I'm now dusting off my old copy of 1984...

  • Just to be clear. The very loud sounding crackling noise is my fingers running over the iphone mic. They're not heard by the meter and you will see it does not react to them. The steady drone and frequent train whistles are the real problem. The mic in the iphone is nowhere near as sensitive as the sound meter, so it's the numbers that are most disturbing.

  • Why didnt you " hang " the meter in the air you twit !

  • i don,t hear anything.

  • can you please interpret the data for us? is that a slightly lower than earth harmonic frequency?

  • For all of u asking yes I live in LaSalle and you can hear it in the morning @ about 6:00

  • is this being felt by people in Detroit at all?

  • @GeARHeadranger88 It's going on to this very day. Last night, (January 30th, 2012), it was unbelieveably loud in the parking lot of the West-end Canadian Tire. Loud enough that people were congregating and listening and laughing that some people say it doesn't exist. A deep, cyclic, rumble that you both feel and hear. I am a resident of LaSalle, and later that evening (9:00 PM) it was just as loud in LaSalle. Extremely low-frequency, and cycling up/down.

  • I can't hear anything

  • ...could be noises from underground installations, military, corporate or other. In the U.S., many below ground facilities and tunnels have been created in the last 20 years using technology that allows for complete secrecy.
