Twin Peaks Roundup Expected to Begin Wednesday, Aug. 11

The Bureau of Land Management has announced that operations to gather excess wild horses and burros from the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area near Susanville, Calif. are expected to begin Wednesday, Aug. 11. The start date was delayed two days due to the availability of the contractor's helicopters.

Members of the public are welcome to view operations once they begin. Those interested in participating in an escorted tour must meet at 6 a.m. at the BLM Litchfield Wild Horse and Burro Corrals, about 20 miles east of Susanville on U. S. Highway 395.

Participants must provide their own high clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, water and lunches. The BLM recommends that the public dress for harsh field conditions, ranging from cool morning temperatures to warm weather in the late afternoon. Binoculars are strongly recommended.

BLM is planning to provide public observation of roundup operations daily so long as the safety of the animals, staff, contractors and observers is not jeopardized and operations are not disrupted.

The corrals are also open to the public. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on weekends.
