Like my good friend Bambi Jones, the Burlesque Legend who used to spend a lot of time with Faron Young once said, "Faron had a saying. The 4 F's ... Find 'em, Friend 'em, F#ck 'em, and Forget 'em".

I can see the word "DICKIE" on the front of steel guitars body. was that Dickie Overby? He's one of my all time favorite steelers... never seen him in early clips though. Wish they would have gotten a shot of him rippin' this one up. You can tell it was live, not lip sync, yet they played it almost note for note like the released recording. This is my favorite era of Faron Young. Thanks Al

It could be Dickie Overby ... he certainly played with Faron later on in his career. It's kind of hit and miss with the shots of the band members on these Gannaway films. I think they used just 2 cameras (and maybe another on a crane) and you never quite knew what they were going to shoot. But all in all, they are a great document of the era.

Excellent video! Definitely looks like Teddy Wilburn on rhythm guitar - I know its not Doyle. Would this have been from the "Town Hall Party" show done in Los Angeles, as I think Gordon Terry was based there at what would seem to be this timeframe. Not sure if the Wilburns were ever based there, or would have been guests.

Thanks for the tip on Teddy vs. Doyle. No, this is from an Al Gannaway film shot in Nashville around 1955 or so. The "Town Hall Party" shows were all in black and white. Gordon Terry did eventually make his way out to the coast for THP and the syndicated Ranch Party TV programs.

Actually, that is not Dickie Overby's steel guitar shown in this video. It's actually Dickie Harris.

@Gatorrock I remember the Gannaway films being offered a few years ago on home video (with various infomercials offering them). Some really good stuff on there if memory serves. I remember hearing Gordon Terry and Del Reeves talking about their time in California when Gordon guested on Del's "Country Carnival" years later in Nashville (I should try t upload some stuff from that episode, plus a Country Carnival I have with Billy Edd Wheeler as guest.
