In order to endow other vehicles with the same kind of sporty and crisp shift feel as the MX-5, we need to achieve a short throw and a light action. With the SKYACTIV-MT, we ignored the conventional transmission structure and re-examined the required functionality from square one. This enabled us to significantly reduce both the weight and the size of the transmission. We achieved a sports-car-like light and crisp shift feel and improved fuel economy.
