This lovely song is from Johnny's album, "Romantically," which was originally released in 1963 but you can purchase it on CD now.
"Friendly Persuasion" is from the 1956 movie of the same title. There is also an alternate title for the song, which is, "Thee I Love." The subject of the movie was the Civil War with, of course, a love story within the story. The main characters were Quakers, thus the word "Thee." Truthfully, I was a child when I saw this film and don't remember the details of the movie.
Many singers have recorded the song, "Friendly Persuasion" through the years but younger Johnny fans may never have heard him sing this one before and there are so many classics by him that should be heard. I know that you can get them online and also at Johnny's official website. Johnny Mathis sings his version, as he does every other song, to perfection. Just beautifully.
Since I couldn't find any public domain images to match the Quaker style of the period, I tried to make a little video to suggest an early 1900's simpler way of life.
Photos: Some photos are public domain that I've enhanced. Some from Burningwell. org. A beautiful tree from nature photos and others from my collection.
Thanks for posting all of Johnny's music, this is a good one.
Have not heard for you in a while, hope you are well.
