HAWK KILLING RABBIT GUN FIRE SHOTS SQUIRREL

This red-tailed hawk attacked its prey, possibly a rabbit, squirrel, or young ground hog. (Parts of the video are repeated in slow motion.)

It probably heard the gun shots and at first tried to fly with the prey. However, the prey weighted almost as much as the hawk and it could not lift-off into flight with the prey. It at first stayed with the prey, but later, after another shot, flew away.

It is possible that the prey escaped, because after the hawk left, I couldn't find the animal.

It appeared that someone in the area was shooting. What sounded like gun shots rang out twice. I didn't hear them while I was taping the hawk (or wasn't paying attention), but heard them when I replayed the tape. It is unknown what the person was shooting at - the hawk, me, or something else.

This hawk was in good condition. It was large, its tail was very red, and it looked extremely healthy.

It had some trouble trying to fly through tree branches, when it took off the last time, but managed to fly.

**The red tailed hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, is a large powerful bird. It can weigh around 2-4 lbs. and has almost a six foot wingspan. They have a sharp, strong, powerful beak and curved talons. They tear prey apart with their beaks. The red tails of these hawks showed up several times.

Thats Not a squirrel. Too big and heavy and the tail is very long but not bushy. The weight is making it difficult to carry it off.

shooting birds of prey is against most laws!

they keep all those vermin in check, including snakes,pigeons,moles,rats,mice and anything up to five pounds. thanks for sharing! I too love the music...
