  • this is the best version. grande Sobinov!

  • Are you kidding me? Reizen was beautiful!

  • SUBLIME!

  • @deramr I like many singers from the "USSR". I just don't like Reizen. REIZEN, get it?

  • @AulicExclusiva

Here is a link of Pinza groaning and growling (you can call it acting).

You are free to have your own opinion, as wrong as it is, but it is very clear to me that you have an agenda of some sort when it comes to singers from the USSR. Reizen was taught by Federico Bugamelli, not Joseph Stalin.

  • @deramr I don't recall Alexander Kipnis, Ezio Pinza, Tancredi Pasero or Wilhelm Strienz being gruff or grumbly. Maybe you are thinking of some Soviet figures. Reizen has many admirers. I'm not one of them.

  • @AulicExclusiva

gruff? grumblings? in an era were all basses, not just those from the USSR, were busy being gruff and grumbly, Mark Reizen was one of the most glorious exceptions to the rule. The man never compromised on his vocal production or musical line.

I really have to wonder whether you've taken the time to actually listen to Reizen's interpretation of this song before slighting one of the finest basses of his time. It's on youtube.

  • Great romance and great artist! Thank you for this!
