Thank you for sharing the video. There are great potatoes and lots of interesting things to check out in the San Luis Valley.

The yellow implement you see in the beginning of the video is the digger. It digs 4 row of potatoes and drops them on top of the ground in the un-dug potato rows. A metal blade that goes under the potatoes and the forward motion of the digger lifts then onto the chain. The dirt falls through and the dead vines fall out the back. The harvester (green) follows and digs 4 more rows of potatoes plus picks up the 4 rows from the digger and puts them in the truck.

I'm doing a project in foods class about potatoes and this video was very interesting, but it doesn't tell us whats going on. What are the steps for harvesting potatoes? Did the video show everything? Thanks!

@Gesselnerbauer It is a Lenco Harvester made in Vestaburg, Michigan, USA
We got is used a few years ago, but it still meets our needs.

is that equipment specifically for harvesting potatoes or does it work for other crops as well?

@rem042 Yes, this is specific for potatoes, but with small adjustments it can be used for other crops. I've seen garlic harvested using narrower chain links.
