At least two local officials in Chinas Guizhou province have been singled out and punished for their involvement in a 2004 adoption scandal.
At issue are three baby girls who ended up in the state-run orphanage, even though their parents were still alive. The officials are accused of coercing the parents into giving up their daughters in order to avoid the hefty fine that comes with having extra children under Chinas controversial one child policy.
State-run orphanages are only supposed to take children who are confirmed as abandoned or whose parents are dead.
In one of the cases, the father tried repeatedly to get his daughter back from the orphanage, but failed.
Couples in the United States and Europe sometimes go to China to adopt girls from orphanages. According to the Associated Press, they pay the orphanages an adoption fee of roughly $3,000 per child.
Well there;s an uneducated and stupid thing to say. What are people supposed to do, oh just forget about my years of waiting process, fees, and applications, duh, I think I go to taiwan and pick some child out of a window display. The challenges and process adoptive parents are subjected to are immense and not entered lightly. It is not a whimsical decision, but has taken much time to accomplish and years of anxiety and red tape to wade through before they ever go and get a child.

@jtrevett It's 10 times cheaper to adopt from Taiwan than China. Don't adopt from China everyone.

@bonzaibb12 : I had no idea that Obama was planning that. Where's the news article that cites this? Has this plan been presented to the public in a press conference.

I do not see how that has anyhing to do whith this subject. The Muslims will not be moving to China in mass anytime soon nor taking there babies. Most Muslims do not adopt babies and I know this because I lived in the Mid East 1 year.

This is very old news and was back in 2004, & just now showing those responsible being dealt with. Please do not prey on the nerves of already anxioiusly waiting parents, who are sensitve to any bad media or fear mongering that will lead to more longer waits for their children, as well as lead to misinformation, The Chinese authorities were quick to correct the issues and we were all very fortunate that neither the west nor china closed it's doors entirely to international adoption!

Since Islamic countries always want more babies, then there would be coming huge Islamic immigrants to other countries which less population.
Then, Islamic democracy will come into the countries, and later turn them to Islamic countries.

Obama's plans are similar for the future. He will create heavy taxes on families with more than 1 child.

I very disagree with the one-child policy.
