This is my 1980 AMC Spirit AMX. I finished restoring this car in July of 2002. This car has new paint,interior,transmission,3:73 rear and a built up 360 AMC engine producing close to 400 hp. I sold this car to finish my 86 Corvette. I miss it very much. This car had the exhaust turned down towards the ground. It sounded real bassy like rolling thunder. This car was super fast. I took it to the 100th Rambler anniversary in Kenosha, WI in July 2002. With Group 19 AMC club. We also took it to Long Island, New York one summer, and I cruised my old neighborhood. Its sad to say that I sold it to a young man and the car is getting abused. I saw some chips and scratches on it. AMC made awesome engines.

  • The Spirit AMX package came with the spoiler and the two side pieces. Search Ebay, junkyards etc.

  • AMC stopped using the Rambler name in 1969. You have an 81 what? Spirit? Concord, Kammback, Eagle, SX4. You can find parts on Ebay or maybe your local junkyard. There are also a lot of parts vendors that carry AMC parts. The doors, fenders and hoods, are the same for all of the vehicles that I just mentioned. I have learned so much about AMC cars over the years. At this time these cars are not worth much original. But have fun and make it what you want. I did. But I kept it all AMC.

  • Hi. No Problem you can use the color scheme. I drew many different paint schemes before I decided on it. I made a template of my spirit and many copies. I used colored pencils to draw many different paint schemes. I got the idea from the PPG Spirit AMX RWB picture. But I wanted something different. With my design, you can see RWB from the front, the back, the sides and the air. I put so much labor and thought into that car. I miss it. I may build another someday. Take care.

  • Buy it Back? What condition is the car in now? Last time I saw it 2 years ago, there were scratches and chips and rust. Now its non-running?I put a high torque power master starter in that car. Do you know how much time, work and money I put into that car? I put my balls into that car. I sold a restored mint muscle car and the owner that I sold it to screwed it up. I am not doing all that work again. How can some people neglect a restored muscle car? You can keep it now I dont want it back!

  • @Flashvette im not the one selling it, just saw it for sale...thought you might want it...people are morons ..same thing happened to a motorcycle I sold to a "collector" it was junk within a year...

  • Hi. No problem. Not your fault. It just makes me sad to see a car that I have restored and loved, go to hell. I am 47 years old. I have owned over 50 vehicles since I was 15 years old. Every vehicle that I owned, I have either restored, fixed up or customized. I wonder how many of those vehicles are still around. I can take a dead neglected car and bring it back to life. If I had the space and money, I would have kept them all. Thanks for letting me know about the car. Take care.

  • Where did you get the spoiler? I just bought a 80 Spirit and can't find one aftermarket to put on.

  • Very awesome car I currently start to restore a 1981 Rambler Rally GT and Im looking for ideas I can't decide if I will go for an original restoration or modified with 20" inch wheels and saved doors, Im not sure if Im going to find parts for an original restoration.

    what do you thing?

  • nice car. sorry to hear about it's demise. i have a 67' rebel sst im selling if you want another project. i also have a 67' marlin and only a 1 car garage at the moment. hence my selling the rebel. keep on motoring!!!

  • Man did you do a unbelievable job rebuilding and refitting this gem! I had a 1980 Spirit myself and to me it was one of the best vehicles I had ever owned. It wasn't as souped up but she was fast and could climb hilly roads better than my EIGHT cylinder car! I was doing 65-75 mph on Route 15 near Williamsport, PA and no one could keep up, no lie!!! I had that car from 1989-1996 and put over 100k miles on it until my engine died. Can't tell you how much I miss that car! Keep up the great work!

  • i have a '79 spirit i built to a drag car. i have been hunting for a r/w/b color combo to paint it. (old school amc drag racing colors you know) i stumbled upon your spirit. i LOVE the colors. i hope you dont mind, that im in LOVE with it, and think its the BEST color scheme i have ever seen on a spirit. i think im gonig to use it. just dont get pissed at me for loving your scheme please?? LMAO!!!!

  • Beautifully Done! Phenomenal job on the R-W-B Paint Scheme. Nice 360. Contact me about the roller rockers and oil-line. Seen your car in Kenosha, by the Lake as in the video. Brought a tear to my eye! Loved the two-tone GT next to it on the drive in the video. Still have my Black 82 GT on the DL option with Rally-tuned suspension and Turbo II's. First new car I bought. Lots of fun. Tried to order it with a V-8 cross-member and No engine, they didn't go for me picking it off the line though.
