  • can i do this on a standard high speed internet connection? because i keep getting an error message and im using a server for practing without a business hardline.

  • @GermanMachine7 You need to be on the local network.

  • @jpltim my server says it's connected to the network. the message i get is cannot connect this computer to the network. btw on a seperate computer trying to do this operation i don't know if that's a problem or not. thank you for the fast reply : )

  • @GermanMachine7 The WHS and the computer must be on the same network.

  • @jpltim they're both hooked into the same router with same connection. do i need to create a static IP address on the server first for this to work?

  • @GermanMachine7 If one can connect they all should be able to connect. The WHS should set the router up automatically.

  • so can i install windows home server 2011 on my old dual core ddr2 rig and access files from my workstation and my laptop on either computer?

  • @muzikmasteruk that's what my problem was i fixed but didn't know me changing the name did it now i know thanks to you man. very much appreciated dude! : )

  • @GermanMachine7

forgot to say DO NOT name the server "SERVER"..... this stops it working also.

it causes many many issues with your ISP... first time i installed it was sending out to an external ip everytime i tried to connect as it happened to be the case that virgin media also had a server called "server".. not good..

    had to reinstall...

  • @GermanMachine7

Yeh i eventually went to the NETWORK section to the left of the mycomputer windows and double clicked the white server icon down the bottom, this points to a different internal address and brought up the green screen again... but this way worked on all my machines. hope it works for you..

  • @muzikmasteruk same here did you find anything out yet?
