so can i install windows home server 2011 on my old dual core ddr2 rig and access files from my workstation and my laptop on either computer?

forgot to say DO NOT name the server "SERVER"..... this stops it working also.
it causes many many issues with your ISP... first time i installed it was sending out to an external ip everytime i tried to connect as it happened to be the case that virgin media also had a server called "server".. not good..
had to reinstall...

Yeh i eventually went to the NETWORK section to the left of the mycomputer windows and double clicked the white server icon down the bottom, this points to a different internal address and brought up the green screen again... but this way worked on all my machines. hope it works for you..

@muzikmasteruk same here did you find anything out yet?
can i do this on a standard high speed internet connection? because i keep getting an error message and im using a server for practing without a business hardline.

@jpltim my server says it's connected to the network. the message i get is cannot connect this computer to the network. btw on a seperate computer trying to do this operation i don't know if that's a problem or not. thank you for the fast reply : )

@GermanMachine7 The WHS and the computer must be on the same network.

@jpltim they're both hooked into the same router with same connection. do i need to create a static IP address on the server first for this to work?

@GermanMachine7 If one can connect they all should be able to connect. The WHS should set the router up automatically.
