First workers are a bit small and weak, but they immediately go to work. Finding food, moving the brood, guarding the nest entrance etc. In this video, they drink honey and feed it to the queen.

In case you find the first part of the video boring, let me say one thing: ant keeping has much to do with patience and observation. That is where my enthusiasm for ants is. Many things become not visible before you watch them for a longer time. Every minute you keep watching, you discover new things. If you don't believe it, try it! (this works outdoors as well and not only with ants) If patience and observing is not your thing, don't keep ants!

In this video for example, by carefully watching, you can discover where all the honey goes, while the ants are drinking it!

  • Thank you for making this video. It is much appreciated.

  • @PreppyPoser1 Thanks for your comment. That is also highly appreciated :)

  • well just wanted to know how to feed the queen ant cause i want to start with her first and build a colony does she eat on her own if i put honey+water on a cotton in the entrance please help!!getting really interested in ants!!you have inspired me!!lol

  • no need to feed in the beginning in most cases. but a drop of honey water on some cotton batting sounds good!

  • Is this ant works ¿? i was thinking about geting a queen in one but it said a queen isn't suitable for it but if it's working for you i might try it.

  • No, it's not. Antworks is for killing ants only. This is a testing tube, with a micro-climate. No gel inside. See the other videos to see how you can keep ants and make them found a colony! Don't use antworks if you want to _keep_ ants.

  • @dataworld1 after hibernation.

  • i have an ant queen 2 days after collection but she hasn't laid any eggs yet. how long will it take for her to lay eggs?

  • Im getting some of these ants in a few weeks :) i dont have alot of patience but i will try! i heard you can paint ants if you put them to sleep then you know wic antthey are lol!

  • The best thing I have found to feed ants is Spectracide Triazicide from Wal Mart, Home Depot, etc. One quart for $9 makes 60 gallons of ass kicking ant food, I call it tasty treats for the little bastards. Kills the whole colony quick, in about 15 minutes there will be no movement, it's not as much fun as using a propane torch on them but it is much more effective. There are too many fire ants here in Florida so I have a little attitude against them. I have probably killed 100 million easy. :^)

  • @NuptialFlight well to find a queen its all about timing if your in mid united states right around this time the queens and males are hatching,, so there easy to find you just need to locate a nest first,,, when they hatch there usaulyy near the surface... I was able to find the orange ones also

  • pull a cricket head off or give a large cricket leg and let them naw on it
