This is the first level of the 4th world of the game I've been working on for several months (about 800+ hours of work). I'm about halfway to finish it.

This zone features heat distortion, dynamic contrast system, rope/chain physics simulation (Verlet integration), 8-star filter, bloom, god rays.

  • @Zeptoflop Thank you! :) Well, I somehow found a few limits in using it, but the good part is that I could focus on developing the game instead of writing the engine :)

    I'm totally going to buy GameMaker Studio!

    Yes, I'm heavily using surfaces ;)

    Some for the static shadows, some for the god rays effect, some for the bloom, some for the retina persistence effect, some for the trails, and also some for the heat distortion+8star filter effect. It's a simple scanline effect, you just have to offset the surface of a few pixels every couple of rows. The resolution of the game isn't very high so it's still feasible :)

  • Wonderful graphics. How do you handle heat distortion in Game Maker? Surfaces? I must say, I'm impressed.
