I was in the Air Force and was stationed there for 6 yrs. I loved the people, culture and the Awamori (泡盛) (is an alcoholic beverage indigenous to and unique to Okinawa). "DRINK VERY LITTLE SLOWLY". I enjoyed the fishing all around the island. I met and befriended several Okinawan's and Japanese who grew up there. Absolutly wonderful friends. The food took a little getting used to, it's a good thing I was there so long. It gave me a chance to drop my american fears and enjoy myself. AwesomeVid

I always find it hard to drink Awamori slowly.  It goes down so nicely after a hot day in Okinawa.

there are people who live up north. new ventures abound. like the cliff/north side of kouri-jima for instance. which had no bridge to it until fairly recently.
