YouTube Symphony Orchestra audition video #2

Thalia plays the contrabassoon part to Beethoven's Symphony #5 Mvt. IV bars 607-645.

I recorded this video in a hurry since I needed to catch the next train to Helsingborg, Sweden, where I was to play bassoon in the film music for an upcoming Swedish science fiction comedy.

The dress if from the Stockholm Royal Opera's 1975 production of "Die Fledermaus".

  • Well, lets see how it ends up...creativity and vitality is good, its just a bit sad that there was not so many Contra players with musicality, perfection and ability to choose from..

  • Yes, I'm certain that there are a lot of players out there kicking themselves that they didn't dare try out because one of us (maybe both! :-)) will get a free 5 day trip to NY and possibly meet Steve Braunstein, a fantastic contra player from the SF Symphony. Taking risks and having fun while doing it pays off!

  • Hej!

    Gratis med brå provspelning!

    Are You studding in Stockholm?

I am a bit confused about Your video, but it seems that is the way how to act;)))

    Good Luck!!!

  • Thank you! You have a great sound.

As you know, it is technically impossible to play the contrabassoon like the violin. Only 1/5 of the voting criteria is for musicianship so I decided to go for the "creativity" and "vitality" points...and have fun!! One has to have a sense of humor if one is going to play contra...and get the most out of life!

  • I will be mad if they don't have you in New York! If not for the contra, then for that FAB dress! I love your energy!!!

  • I was a bit curious about the dress, which has a label in the bodice "Delman Die Fledermaus '75". Googled it and got the English soprano Jacqueline Delman who now works as a vocal coach in the Stockholm area. She has apparently also sung "Die Fledermaus" in Las Vegas.

  • This might be the most precious video I've ever watched on YouTube. Your technical playing is very good, but that shot of your running away in the woods is maybe the most creative/funny thing I've ever seen. I wish two things for you:

    1. That you get in to the YouTube Symphony.

    2. That this video becomes the next internet sensation with millions of viewers.

  • this is amazing.

  • I don't quite understand the scenes in the forest...

  • Being creative and using humor is a part of great performance practice. It certainly is not out of place here! This is a terrific video Thalia and your playing will help you rise above strong competition. It is cut to the chase and you have my vote.

  • You definitely score points for creativity and enthusiasm. Very cool video and I LOVE your dress! You got my votes!
