Originally known as the Japanese song "サヨンの鐘" (莎勇之鐘) by 渡邊はま子, this song was recorded in 1941, and used in the 1943 movie of the same name. "サヨンの歌", which was used in the movie as sub - theme (插曲) was recorded by 李香蘭. It was not until 1964 did "長青歌后: 紫薇" sing the Mandarin version: 月光小夜曲. In 1977, 薰妮 recorded the Cantonese "每當變幻時". Later recordings were in the 1970s, which included 楊小萍 (風飄飄雪飄飄 album) in 1976 and 陳芬蘭 (月光小夜曲/你儂我儂 album) in 1977, 鳳飛飛 (玫瑰玫瑰我愛你 album) in 1978, 蔡琴 (不了情 album) in 1983 and 徐小鳳 (別亦難 album) in 1988.
