    If you're interested in some of Phil's (unfictionalized) personal experiences with mental illness, check out his essay on Schizophrenia and the I Ching. Not only is it incredibly well written, it's also pretty funny.

    you should read Valis, dude. I have a lot of respect for PKD as someone who was able to endure a great deal of mental stress, hold together a fragmented personality and a lot of suffering, but still be a coherent human being able to contribute to society. That said, he suffered the symptoms of schizophrenia.

    I can't say I agree with your hero-resurrection cliche because I take mental illness seriously - because not everyone does get their mind back. Some lose it and just die
