Super Metroid Tricks: Murder Beam edition

I was going to put these into the other series, but since they're so much longer than the other tricks (since I did the whole fights), I made them their own video.

#1: First up is Ridley. You'll want to charge up in the room before Ridley, then press Start as soon as you start falling in the next and set up Murder Beam.

Murder Beam isn't hugely effective against Ridley, but it has its uses. In particular, his grab becomes MUCH easier to escape. The MB reacts quite interestingly with Ridley's tail as well, and creates a flaming appearance.

#2: Behold the glitchy mess that is Murder Beam against Mother Brain. You'll want to drop the Murder Beam around the time her head drops. If you drop it too late, it doesn't seem to work (not for me at least). If done correctly, you should get the yellow orb I have here.

As I said, MB really makes this fight messy. Most of the time I can't even see Samus, and Brain's leg folds in an out of visibility as she moves. The Metroid showing up creates a LOT of lag too.

While this pixelated mess may not seem effective, the reason it's used in speed runs is due to the nature of the game's timer. IIRC, it counts time based on frames, not actual time units. As such, any event that creates lots of lag cheats the clock a bit, shaving seconds or even minutes off the end time.

'Tis part of the glitchiness of the Murder Beam. It messes with the sprites and obscures parts of the screen, which in the Mother Brain fight makes you invisible most of the fight.

@booyakasha128 The Murder Beam does damage to everything that is to the left of where it hit. Also, the reason it is so glitchy is because there is no sprite for the Plasma and Spazer Beams together, and it has more destructive power than 5 Power Bombs, which the game can't handle. Also, you can't be hurt by your own weapons, so the game doesn't know what to make of it, thus crashing.

Combine the Murder Beam with the Stand-Up Glitch, the through Zebetites Glitch, and the Hyper Beam Cheat. The Stand-Up Glitch is this: Turn off the Varia Suit and Gravity Suit before fighting Mother Brain, and make sure you have between 7 and 9 full eneergy tanks, no more, no less. When Mother Brain hits you, you can stand up and fight even when the Metroid joins. As for everything else, you're on your own.

u mean the crystal flash? it actually takes away your ammo and gives u health. power bomb while at under 50 life and having 10 or more of each weapon. stay in the ball and hold down and like L/R and shoot.

Um... what's the Murder Beam? I've never heard of it before.

And does ayone know how to do the wierd trick where Samus takes off her suit, fills up all her missiles and stuff, and is back to normal?
