HD video of my dachshunds, Daphne (brown) and Delilah (black), filmed about a year ago when Daphne was 9 and Delilah, 7. They are not siblings, but were raised together from the time they were pups. (Their human father died of cancer, and three years later when their mother learned she had terminal cancer, she asked us to take care of them after she passed on.) This is my first experience raising dachshunds and they are quite a handful, i.e., high maintenance! But they are very sweet and lovable and have won my heart.

"The dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed, of the hound family. The standard size was developed to scent, chase, and flush badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature was developed to hunt smaller prey, like rabbits. In the American West, they have also been used to hunt prairie dogs. The name 'dachshund' is of German origin and literally means 'badger dog', from Dachs ('badger') and Hund ('dog'). Because of their long, narrow build, they are sometimes nicknamed hot dog dog, wiener dog or sausage dog. Although 'dachshund' is a German word, in modern German they are also commonly known by the name Dackel; in the case of the formally certified hunting and tracking rank, the name Teckel is used." • The average weight is 12-16 lbs for standard daschunds. Check the American Kennel Club guidelines on their website. Don't feed them scraps and make sure they get moderate exercise - avoid stairs and any jumping as it hurts their short legs and bone structure. Feed them dry food twice a day, based on their weight. Read the package instructions.

  • Omg.... i just went a got a dachshund for my bf... and when the previous owner brought him outside to us he was HUGE!. he was 1.5 year old already and when i seen him i was like no way that a dachshund can be that big. I was around the mini ones bc my aunt has two of them.. When i seen him i could have sworn that he weight close to 50lbs. how much are they suppose to weight and what can i do to help him lose some weight?!?!? considering this is my first time owning a dachshund.

  • I love how they ignore you...I have two dachshunds too and they totally do what they want and pay no attention to my wishes...too cute to get mad at thou!
