@1955marfa Thanks for singing with me! Glad I was able to bring back presumably happy memories for you. Blessings on you!

OMG! I haven't heard this in decades. I went to a Catholic School which made a better singer (I believe). We sang all the time in those days and this was one of those hymns. Our teacher taught us the descant during the verses for those of us who could sing that high. I still remember it and although my voice cracks, I can harmonize along with your voice. Thank you for posting--you took me back to the best years of my life when I was in EL/Jr. High School. Best wishes!

Really interesting song. One of my favorite bands is Backworld. The artist behind Backworld learned how to play guitar via nuns and catholic mass. I can actually here a lot of his music in this song...at least it has a "vib." Coldworld is thought by many to be one of the first sorta neofolk style bands. The style to me is a "dark." Much different then American Folk that seems to be more...upbeat? I really enjoyed this. Thanks!

@AtmanIdentity You're welcome. I'll have to check out Backworld to see what you mean. Interesting comment, though. Thanks!

@AtmanIdentity I c what u mean by dark! They seem 2 major on minors. I only listened 2 a little bit of a couple of songs, but I kind of get the idea. I'll listen 2 more later.

i learned this at church camp in the 70's and play a version like the one you are playing. (sometimes we add the fake trumpet and some counting that the youth have added over the years). Just today i listened to the original by writer Ray Repp which is fabulous. the timing is a bit different and i love the harmonies, probably what 1955marfa referred to!

@WhirledPeasClothing Thanks for prompting me to look for Ray Repp's version! I just heard it for the first time, and it was awesome! Apparently it was just uploaded last month, or I would have already heard it by now, because I'm sure I've looked for it before and was unable to find it. Anyway, yes, the timing is a bit different, but that's okay. It's a folk song! I love singing this in harmony too. I sang it with a group many years ago in 4 part harmony. It was powerful!

@BlackTeddies True, and if you had read the first line of my video description, you would have known that without even having to open this video file.
