The politically conservative Evangelical community believes sex is meant to take place only within the context of marriage, and favors Abstinence-Only curriculum in the American educational system. Powerful Christian organizations along with $1.3 billion in federal funding have created Purity Balls, high-tech road shows and faith-based education curricula disputing safe sex practices. Daddy I Do sheds light on the personal and social implications of the growing Abstinence Movement by examining key abstinence programs from the perspective of promoters and participants. This documentary includes vigorous discussion between both sides of the debate, punctuated by personal stories, creating a controversial dynamic.

  • 1:58 UNRENDERED.

  • @Aphradonis @Xjbe @thegodoys @Orikigami2 Yes, there were two exporting hiccups at 1:58 and 2:03 - no conspiracy. We caught it after the video was already linked to multiple online articles, so it's too late to change it now. Good eye though!

  • hey, we briefly met at Cannes for the Independent Film Festival! I didn't get a chance to at the time but just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed and impressed I was with your film! You probably watched this as part of your research but if you haven't I'd highly recommend 'Lake of Fire' by Tony Kaye... it's also a documentary that deals with abortion in America. Brilliantly shot too!

Good luck with your future film-making!

  • @petereganpoletopole Hi! Yes, I remember you were sitting behind me at the screening. Great job on your film as well! I've seen LAKE OF FIRE, it was difficult for me to watch, but very well done!

  • how can I watch the full documentary?

  • @bilong92 We are planning for "Daddy I Do" to be released on dvd in early 2011. If you'd like to be put on the wait list for a dvd, email: waitlist (at) jayebirdproductions (dot) com and we'll notify you when it's ready

  • I feel so strongly about this topic. I actually made a video called safe-sex vs abstinence. These purity balls are wrong on so many levels it sickens me.

  • @matoushka

Also, why are there no mother/son purity balls for young boys? Because there is the horrible old notion that girls are too emotional and irrational to be able to make their own moral decisions, so the fathers have to make up for the girls' "deficiency".

  • Studies actually show that teens who do this abstinent thing are more likely to become pregnant because they don't know what to do in that situation. People are living by the "wait till marriage" that was made in a time when marriages were arranged and set up at a young age. This is insane.

  • I honestly don't get this, it's just sex what is so fucking wrong with having sex. It's the most wonderful and exhilarating thing You'll ever do. What are christian so afraid of?

  • Funny.. CatholicAmerican is actually right. But that's beside the point. Regardless of the parents brainwashing these kids, any guy can talk any of these girls into having sex in under 5 minutes. Brainwashing is pretty powerful these days, but still no match for Nature. Our DNA was programmed by whoever for females to be submissive to males. All your Catholic Brainwashing Camps can't change that.

All you really need to do is show them a Pornstar's Pussy and say DO YOU WANNA BE THAT LOOSE?

  • Even in a 80% catholic country like mine this is ridiculous (ah americans and their things)

  • @CatholicAmerican username 'Catholic America', explains itself why your comment is ridiculous

  • Because these girls are not taught about protection, it makes them more likely to get pregnant, catch STDs. Teenagers are a hotbed of ranging hormones, they're going to have sex, especially because they are told it's 'forbidden fruit', which makes it even more desirable. If you feel strongly that you should promote abstinence, then atleast say; "Don't have sex before marriage, but if you cannot help yourself and you feel like giving in, use protection."

  • I just want to say that, yes, I do think purity balls are a bit strange and over board. I am not for abstinence but am against the thought of potentially life threatening pills. The argument, however, should not be about teaching abstinence or about birth control promoting sex. What we need to do is teach our youth about sex in a way that their decisions are responsible. Once we try to form reasonable trust with our youth is when STDs and pregnancies will decrease. Until then our future doomed.

  • These ppl are insane. They have problems. Education and choices about sex are what work, not trying to hide behind it and lie about it. Religion sucks.
