This helps a lot I'm going to show my teacher this technique when I go in to school tomorrow.

Just had to let you know, I've never had to think about getting my cylinders light enough at the base since I saw your demo and explanation. If I had to pick the one most helpful hint for throwing, this would be it!
much appreciation,
Sharon

So good of you to share your techniques with us. After all these years I never knew how to bring up the extra on the bottom. I've seen other potters doing it, but no one ever explained it that I recall. I can do it, but differently. Holding the outside, I dig in from the inside. I struggle and spend a lot of time pulling minute amounts up and weakening the walls. You're a very good teacher. I'm so glad I discovered your vids.

I've been having that exact problem! I can't wait to hit the studio tomorrow and try widening the base more. Thanks so much!

Thank you for your videos. I'm just getting back into clay after 18 years hiatus. I threw three pots last night at an adult ed. class. They came out well for such a long break, but I wish I had seen these videos, first. This will help a lot.

very good instruction Steve, thanks for the tip. Do you do the same thing with big pots 5,7,9lbs and up?
And I too like the idea of the flyer for the wares I sell

Yes the technique is the same it lifts the clay from the base it just takes a little more grunt. LOL give it a go remember "its only clay"
