  • very bad . very false

  • Thank you a lot for uploading this :)

  • The mic was placed way too close to the violin and creates a great deal of distortion that wouldn't be there if you were there "live".

  • Despite the comments below, this is still one the great violin sounds of all time, unmatched by any of the now famous younger violinists

  • @Mendy7952 Thanks, that explains why he looks a shadow of his former self.

  • I knew one of the orchestral musicians in this performance. He told me it was quite an embarrassment as Elman was just plain nervous and uncomfortable. They made him stand on a little podium which limited his movement and the T.V. lights and cameras were more than he could take. (Early color T.V. lighting was so hot it was like playing in an oven.) He is still my favorite violinist of all-time, as for me, the violin is about sonics more than any other parameter. Hear his earlier recordings.

  • incredible!!never heard somebody

who can take such a sound out af the violin!!!!!!!!!!

  • his violin sounds like a cello!!! FANTASTIC!

today this instrument is certainly played by someone

    and sounds different--------

interesting technique -unique - not 100% perfect (for luck!!)

  • Clearly they did not tune before beginning.

Really odd to have Elman warming up until the last second.

This is best forgotten I think.....

  • Yes, unfortunately Elman's intonation is throughout the whole movement too flat (but in itself rather consistent) In his prime his intonation was superb, a model of beauty and perfection. Elman is one of my absolute favourites and it upset me greatly to see this Wieniawski performance being released. However, I feel that anybody is allowed to have an 'off day' and Elman was after all only human and not the youngest anymore by the time of this performance!
