I know it has some beautiful places/streets, which survived the war and were repaired or rebuilt from the ground. But as a whole, its just ugly, there isn't any composition with the buildings, its a mix between a small number of prewar buildings surrounded by the communist ones, as well as with the modern glass boxes of the skyscrapers. Warsaw was modern before the war, in fact, it was one of the most modern cities in Europe at that time, it was developing and improving it's infrastructure fast.

Warsaw maybe isn't very beautiful city but I think certainly isn't ugliest. Warsaw has a lot of interesting places, buildings and streets like Old Town, skyscrapers, Nowy Świat etc. Now this is a modern and new city, not old like Cracow or Wroclaw.

In my opinion Warsaw is the ugliest city (capital) in Poland. Because it was almost completely destroyed in 1944, 90% of the buildings were raised to the ground by bombs, burning and demolition explosives. Before WW2, Warsaw was beautiful, it was nicknamed as the "Paris of the North". If you want to see it's old architecture, search for "Pre-war Warsaw" on YouTube. After the Soviets took over Poland in 1945, they rebuilt Warsaw in the ugly Communist style, against the will of most Poles.
