The Locksmith - John Simm

(1997) In this six-part British miniseries, locksmith Roland Pierce (Warren Clarke) was shaken out of his middle-class complacency when his ex-wife was nearly killed in a robbery attempt.

Although the police were certain that the culprit was a local junkie, their apparent indifference to the victim prompted Pierce to become a one-man vigilante force and take Paul (John Simm) hostage. Alas, Pierce's quest for justice only results in more grief for himself, his former wife, and his estranged daughter.

I was an extra in this when I was about 7, I've got a copy on tape some where as my mum recorded the episode me and my brother was in. But I can never find the clip on here! Would be great if you could post more if possible! :)

I wish this was commercially available! A terrific performance from a 27 year old Simm (playing 19 and very believably too). Having just been to see him 13 years on play the lead in 'Hamlet' at the Sheffield Crucible, I'm bowled over by the way in which he draws you in and elicits sympathy for the least likeable of characters. As the young man's story unfolds throughout these tension-filled episodes you find actually find yourself feeling sorry for him! Every bit as tragic a tale as Hamlet
