Personally, I think that it's crap to have a 'national prayer day.' Those to whom it matters to pray are likely doing it EVERY day. It's just more nonsense to fight about.

Manifest Destiny -- the God-ordered responsibility of white Christians to spread the gospel to the "savages."
And enslave them, and kill them in untold numbers.
And Darwin was responsible for this doctrine? How again?
-
So you think these men were Christians? They were following the teachings of Jesus? Okay.
You are blaming Manifest Destiny on Darwin's Origins of Species? Okay.
-
Well, like any other Christian - indeed, every other person - they too had sins which needed Christ's forgiveness.
Do you think being a Christian is supposed to make a person perfect this side of eternity?
Just remember, it was the anti-Biblical "Origin of the Species" that provided the impetus for most of the 19th and 20th Century racial hatred.
-
Why would books written before the 1960s have a greater degree of accuracy? Just curious.
Whether you like it or not -- wealthy white men, following their white supremacist Biblical interpretations, and other white supremacist philosophies, colonized the world, traded in slaves, and murdered millions upon millions of brown and black people, raped every continent for resources and called it MANIFEST DESTINY. In other words they supposedly did it for GOD.
Were they true Christians?
-
Once again your indoctrination is showing.
I bet your public skrewel teachers are giddy over your indoctrinated drivel. Try reading some books written before the 1960s...
-
Know my history? I certainly know it well enough to refute this inane claim that the founders of our nation were Christians. They were all white men, mostly very wealthy, and they wrote the laws to protect white male wealth. They, of course, saw the advantages of Christian rhetoric for manipulating the stupid.
I know, of course, that many government meetings are opened with prayer -- usually an ecumenical prayer that does not refer to any specific conception of any particular religion's "god."
-
Oops, you're right, only the presidents since Eisenhower in 1951...
But, then again, every president before then also called for "National Days of Prayer" whenever this country faced tragedy. In fact, the very first thing the first congress, under the current Constitution, did was to hold a three-hour Chrstian prayer meeting and then commission an American Bible to be published. And, our first Chief Justice, John Jay, opened the first Supreme Court with prayer too.
Know your history.

His 43 predecessors DID NOT have to deal with this bullshit "National Day of Prayer." These Right Wing Fundamentalist rallies ARE NEW TO THE COUNTRY. Not American tradition AT ALL.
The creator who endowed us with inalienable rights? That would be "Nature's God," not the Christian God (see Dec of Ind.). And these truths are "self-evident," (the atheist, Ben Franklin's, editorial contribution.) NOT REVEALED BY THE CHRISTIAN GOD.
Our nation's founders WERE NOT CHRISTIANS. They were mostly Deists.
-
Um,, his 43 predecessors didn't have a problem with praying to the Creator Who endowed us all with certain, unalienable rights...
I wonder why he doesn't protect the traditions of our great country? Perhaps he doesn't believe that our country should look to God, as has his 43 predecessors...
i pray evryone quits watching fox news,,what a frickin joke!

Obama believes religion is a deeply personal issue and shouldn't be in politics. He's said this. Everybody knows this. Yet somehow these idiots manage to lay a new egg each time it's "rediscovered".
