Amputated above the knee from last year , I have been learning how to go around on a wheelcahir in Tokyo. Bumpy rail road crossings ( all over Tokyo and Japan ) are death traps for both the abled and disabled alike . Prodding man-holes , shop signs , bad mannered bicycles and people too are just the tip of the iceberg . I will try to show the World how Tokyo isn't that safe city Tokyo's despotic mayor ISHIHARA claims it is . Not to forget that I am a GAIJIN ( a non Japanese ) too and get hassled by Toyko's finest when I was abled bodied and disabled too . I falled of my wheelchair once right in the middle of a rail road crossing near my place and the cop just stood there while local house wives and some young business men picked me up and dragged my chair to safety. So far for " To protect & Serve " . Hope to hear from other disabled across the Globe . AK.57

  • I'm not sure I understand what was so mean about this railroad crossing. You seemed to get across it smoothly and with no problem.

I agree that there must be disadvantages to being in a wheelchair in Tokyo, but good luck in Philadelphia where I'm originally from. It's impossible to access the sidewalk in most places and people in wheelchairs have to navigate the narrow streets where there are no pedestrians.

  • You don't know what the fuzz is all about ? Fine stay that way . AFTER I got stuck in the same rail crossing and if it was not for some people would have been long dead . Don't know about Philadelphia's narrow roads as you put it . HERE is where I am living and stuck . Just Remember I am sort of safe now because I spent 20 grand on that Kraut chair . But others aren't as lucky and there are a lot worse rail crossings here in Tokyo and the suburbs . To us here is Jackass day EVERY DAMN DAY !!

  • Dear to, Thanks for posting this video; can you tell me, were there many disabled-person facilities (ramps and dropped curbs) available in Tokyo. . Does Japan have a Disablility Discrimination Act, as do other developed countries; do you know? . Or, would you make a comparison with the facilities available in the city in which you principally reside, and those of Tokyo? . I am wondering as I'd like to visit Japan if it seems possible; I live in London. . Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • Del-boy , You wanna find out all these things about Tokyo YOU HAULl your ass here and find it all by yourself . Disability Discrimination Act exists for the Outer World to get impressed . None is in use nor will be at least for the next decade . As far as comparing the facilities available in the city where I reside , lemme tell you SIR that the city where I reside IS TOKYO . If you stopped picking your nose hairs and read the short titles I inserted YOU WOULD find out . Dumb SCHMUCK !

  • Thamk you for posting those videos. Bad mannered people are everywhere the same.

  • INDEED . And Imbecility , like the flu or yawning are contagious . Tokyo's right wing Mayor Ishihara and his Cartel doesn't give a s#it about the disabled . To impress the Outer World to come and do the 2016 Olympic Games . He and the Yakuza will get richer on our misery . No disability Discrimination act was EVER put in use except of course , when the Mayor and his rat pack needs to filch more money out of tax payers coffers . Can't even take a leak when out on the streets .

  • I do not follow. I' in a power wheelchair myself, and that seems quite accommodating compared to some places. I've never had an able body, and I'd be perfectly satisfied if all of the streets were as clear as you showed here.

You should visit Boston some day. Then again, if this is a gripe of yours - then maybe you shouldn't.
