David Bain trial Final defence witness Peter Ross recalls Laniet Bain's last moments

The last defence witness is giving evidence in David Bains retrial and has recounted Laniet Bains final moments.

David Bain is defending five charges of murdering his family in 1994, saying his severely depressed father killed the family and then himself.

Australian forensic scientist Peter Ross says Laniet Bain was sitting up in bed facing her killer when she was shot in the top of the skull. She then slumped down and was shot again in the side of the head and finally in the cheek.

He said the first shot went through an object like a pillow.

Closing addresses are expected later this week.
